On October 21, 2015 Marty McFly rides the Delorean into tomorrow’s technology in the 1985 hit movie ‘Back to the Future’. Well, here we are in 2014 and the future has arrived with much of the technology imagined in the movie (minus the ability to time travel and flying cars). One of these technologies is the Lynx Touch 5200 and 7000 Security/Home Automation Panels.

Selecting a security system to protect your home may be one of the most important decisions you ever make and when Honeywell unveiled its new Lynx Touch 5200 and 7000 Security/Home Automation Panels in 2014 they also produced the big winner at ESX (Electronic Security Expo). The Lynx Touch 7000 Control System won for ‘Best Overall Winner and Wireless Alarm System’.

The big picture for the LYNX Touch 7000 goes well beyond its impressive 7-inch full-colour touchscreen. It also has on-premises video viewing-integrated video system supports up to four cameras, which can be displayed individually or in a quad configuration on the touchscreen, advanced communications capabilities that include two-way voice over GSM, Wi-Fi and Z-Wave automation (for those of you who aren’t familiar with Z-Wave it is a wireless technology that makes regular household products, like lights, door locks and thermostats “smart”. Z-Wave products “talk” to each other wirelessly and securely and can be accessed and controlled on your phone, tablet or pc). LYNX Touch 7000 was also recognized in the 2014 Security Industry Association (SIA) New Product Showcase Awards when previewed at ISC West in April.

The Lynx Touch 5200 is similar to the big brother (7000). Both are all-in-one home and business control systems, but the 5200 features a 4.7″ full-colour touchscreen and support for only one camera. Both products add a smarter dimension to the connected lifestyle, with randomized lighting for heightened security, a sunrise/sunset feature that takes the hassle out of reprogramming the seasonality of dawn and dusk, support for Z-Wave® flood sensors and an auto-secure function that lets users arm their systems when garage doors are open-helping to prevent false alarms.
